5-member gang hacks civic body employee to death in Kasimedu
A five-member gang hacked a 40-year-old Corporation worker to death in full public view near Kasimedu early on Sunday. He was attached to TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK and campaigned for the leader during the RK Nagar bypoll.

The deceased identified as Sivakumar of Amaranjipuram, worked as a fitter in the Royapuram zone of city Corporation. According to police, Sivakumar came to a teashop at Kasipuram when a five-member gang surrounded and attacked him with machetes and wooden logs. When he tried to escape, the gang chased and hacked him multiple times all over the body.
After Sivakumar collapsed, the gang fled the spot. Shocked onlookers rushed to his rescue and sent him to Stanley Medical College Hospital where he died without responding to treatment. After preliminary inquiry, police suspect that he might have been murdered over previous enmity.
“Sivakumar was involved in a fight with another person in Amaranjipuram over a drainage line in the locality. He had also registered a complaint with the local police in this regard. Also, he passed on information about a ganja peddler in the locality and helped the police nab the accused, who is currently lodged in Puzhal prison. We are investigating if their aides murdered Sivakumar,” said police sources.
Sivakumar is survived by wife Kumudha, two daughters and a son.
6 held for murder
The Kodungaiyur police arrested six suspects, including a juvenile, for murder. A hunt has been launched for one more suspect in connection with the case. Vicky alias Vignesh (28), a resident of Kodungaiyur, was found dead with injuries on June 5.The autopsy report revealed that Vignesh sustained multiple injuries and police launched a hunt for the suspects. After the investigation, police nabbed Mohan, Suresh, Mani, ‘Kulla’ Karthik, Kumar and a juvenile. While they were remanded in prison, the juvenile was sent to an observation home. Police said they are yet to apprehend one more suspect involved in the murder. Police said the gang killed Vignesh on suspicion that he stole a battery from a parked vehicle in Kodungaiyur.
