Rs 27.8 lakh robbed near Ponneri
At least Rs 27.8 lakh cash, which was taken from a private dairy to be deposited in a bank in Chennai, was robbed in full public view by an eight member gang in Sholavaram near Ponneri in Tiruvallur on Friday.
Chennai
Police said that the gang came in four bikes, intercepted the car carrying cash, broke the windshield and took the cash bag before escaping. The incident happened 500 metres away from the office of the dairy. “Apart from the driver, there were three others, including a gunman, in the car,” police said.
As the staff in the car did not put up much resistance, police on suspicion have taken them to the station for questioning. The dairy firm collects the sales cash daily and transports the money to a bank in Guindy in Chennai using the services of an agency.
The car was driven by Balasubramanian from Theni, and was accompanied by gunman Loganath, Rajkumar, an agent and cashier Balaji. The police have not ruled out the involvement of insider in the robbery. Senior police officials including district superintendent of police and DSP visited the spot.
