Rs 1 lakh award for 30 schools with 100 per cent pass
Chennai Corporation on Thursday announced a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each for 30 schools in the city, which secured 100 per cent pass percentage in Class 10 board exams this year.

A release from the Corporation said that 30 corporation schools in Chennai have registered 100 per cent pass percentage and will receive Rs 1 lakh each as reward, which will be utilised for overall development of the awardee schools.
In 2014-2015, 22 schools in Chennai had secured the feat, it said, adding that in 2015-16, as many as 19 schools did it. Last year, around 20 schools have attained 100 per cent pass percentage. Every year, the schools that secure this feat are awarded cash prizes.
Of the total amount, Rs 50,000 will be spent to purchase materials for infrastructure development, Rs 20,000 will be utilised for organising tour for teachers, Rs 15,000 for procuring lab equipment and Rs 15,000 to develop basic amenities for the students.
The cash award was received by the Corporation officials from Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme S P Velumani at the State Secretariat. This year, a total 5,908 have appeared for class 10 exams, of which 5,516 were successful candidates with the overall pass percentage of 93.96 per cent, an increase of 0.26 per cent as compared to last year.
