Fire at aerospace lab in IIT, expensive equipment gutted

All the expensive equipment kept in the lab belonging to aerospace department  were destroyed in the fire. None were injured in the accident.

Though the fire was first spotted around 6.30 am by security guards and TNFRS was immediately, fire tender from Guindy reached the spot only around 8 am followed by another tender from Raj bhavan at 8.15 am. The fire which had engulfed the entire 100 sq ft lab was put out over an hour and was prevented from spreading to nearby structures.

An aerospace student told DTNext that the department has a cluster of labs located and it would have been a major tragedy if the fire was not doused on time. He added that the fire broke out in the experimental lab.  Kotturpuram police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
