A 63-year-old man was hacked to death by a three-member gang in Pulianthope on Tuesday and police have formed three teams to nab the suspects.
Chennai
The incident happened around 6 am when the victim, Radha of Narasimhan Nagar in Pulianthope, was standing near a tea shop on Thiru Vi Ka Nagar–Shastri Nagar junction.
Police said that three men reached the spot with weapons and on seeing them, Radha tried to flee the spot. But the trio surrounded Radha and hacked him multiple times on his face. With deep cut injuries, Radha died on the spot.
While the murderers escaped from the scene, shocked onlookers alerted police. A team headed by inspector Ravi reached the spot and sent Radha’s body for post-mortem examination to the nearby GH.
Police sources said that the murderers have been identified with the help of CCTV footage recovered from the locality and three teams have been formed to nab them.
After the preliminary inquiry, police said that Radha could have been murdered by the accomplices of history-sheeter Chinna, who was also murdered recently. “He was involved with the gang in the recent past,” said police. While Radha’s wife died years ago, his son R Sampath is a lawyer.
