SB-CID warns of 'revenge' attack by sterlite protesters
An intelligence report generated from Chennai police headquarters has warned about a possible retaliation against police by a 60-member group headed by one Daniel, a DMK cadre, who was arrested during the protest against Sterlite and released.

His group is allegedly procuring country made bombs and planning to attack police stations, police quarters, SP office and Collector’s office as an act of revenge against the police firing on May 22, which killed 13 persons including two women, the report stated.Â
A communication despatched by the superintendent of police, Special Branch CID, to the Thoothukudi SP on May 25 night – three days after the police firing – warned about the regrouping of 60 odd people in the district to take revenge for the killings in police firing.Â
Daniel, DMK fishermen’s wing district office bearer, was arrested on May 22 by Thalamuthu Nagar police during protest and released along with Selvaraj and his brother Mani of Tsunami Nagar. He had organised a meeting of 60 fishermen from Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli.Â
In the meeting held at Mottai Gopuram sea shore area in Thalamuthu Nagar police station limit, they decided to procure country made bombs from Koothankuzhi in Tirunelveli.Â
The report also specifically said that they have decided to attack the offices of district superintendent of police and the Collector, beside their residences, police quarters and police stations.Â
Gracepuram police quarters, beach side quarters, Thoothukudi North police station, Thoothukudi Central police station, Thalamuthu Nagar police station, Thermal Nagar police station were among the list of targets identified by the protestors, claimed the alert from the state intelligence wing.Â
The marriage halls where the police personnel from other districts are staying after being called for additional deployment are also listed as possible targets. The special branch SP’s communication has also advised the Thoothukudi SP to take enough precautions to prevent any such attack.Â
It may be noted that immediately after the incident of police firing on May 22, certain WhatsApp groups of protestors were reportedly planning and identifying locations for retaliation.Â
