Flyover construction work to begin soon in Pattabiram
Residents and motorists heaved a sigh of relief, as railway officials finally started taking up the spadework for the construction of a flyover at the railway crossing in Pattabiram, a western suburb.

Residents said that since educational institutions are lined up along the stretch, school and college students suffered a lot. The railway crossing remained a hindrance and it consumed more time to cross the gate.
The total cost of the project is Rs 52 crore, of which state government will account Rs 32 crore, while the railways will share the remaining Rs 20 crore. While the railways department has undertaken digging work near the gate, department of state highways is waiting for Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to perform boomi pooja in a couple of days.
S Mohanram, an activist and president of Consumer Protection Council, Tiruninravur, said, “Even though the railway has started the spadework, the state highways should also start with its work on its part. We have submitted perennial petitions relating to the flyover works with the Tiruvallur district administration,” adding that they were hopeful that works will start soon.
Meanwhile, motorists and residents of Tiruninravur are happy with the preliminary works. “The railway crossing remained as a bottleneck and vehicles are seen piling up every 30 minutes to give way for trains. This also affected schools and college students,” said K Nathan, a resident of Tiruninravur, who drops and picks up his son in a local school during peak hours.
Sensing the prevailing situation, the officials should no longer delay the construction works, he stressed.
Speaking to DT Next, K Pandiarajan, MLA of Avadi and minister for Tamil Development said that the Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will soon perform boomi pooja.
He said that routes will be diverted during the construction work and the alternative route has already been drawn. “Everything is ready and Chief Minister is expected to perform boomi pooja soon, after which the works will start. Further, we have already found diversion routes, in which vehicles will ply, till the works are completed,” he said.
