700 detained in city for staging protests
A group of lawyers from the Democratic Advocates Association tried to besiege the house of Chief Minister in Chennai on Saturday condemning the police firing in Thoothukudi.

Following it, police detained about 700 men and women from different parts of the city for their continued protest condemning the shootout resulting in death of 13 protesters.
As many as 81 men and 34 women were secured for staging protests in Egmore, Foreshore Estate, Sevenwells and Royapuram. Agitations were also held in Poonamalle, Triplicane, Kannagi Nagar and Tiruvottiyur.
The intensive patrolling on Marina has come down since the tension in Thoothukudi incident has calmed down a bit. On Saturday, about 350 police personnel were posted for security against the strength of 1,500 the previous day.
