Sons of MLA, senior cop in bar brawl, probe begins

A police probe has been initiated into a brawl between two groups of people. Out of the two groups, allegedly biggies, one involved the son of an Additional Director General of Police and the other the son of a former minister and sitting MLA. The incident occurred at a star hotel on Jawaharlal Nehru Salai in Guindy.

“We have received a complaint from one Karthikeyan, who belongs to the group comprising the senior police officer’ son. He stated that another group assaulted him and his friends inside a bar in Guindy. We have registered a case and an inquiry is on,” a senior police officer said.

Sources said that the incident was initially sorted out by the executives of the hotel management and bouncers present at the bar as both sides were found to be influential.

“There was a scuffle between the two sides over a seat in the bar. One side claimed  that the other had taken over the  seats reserved for them,” one of the sources added.

They also said that one of the groups also had girl members. In the fracas, one of the men lost his gold chain and locket which was recovered later. After the members were escorted out, they left the hotel after making peace among themselves.

“At least one or two members of both the groups were known to each other and they seem to have talked it out on Sunday night itself. But on Monday evening, one of the group members lodged a complaint,” an officer said.

The police did not rule out the possibility of a team from the Guindy police station going to the house of a DMK MLA’s house in Tiruvotriyur to question his son, adding they would also study the CCTV footage, if  available from the hotel, for investigation.

“Now that we have a complaint, we will follow it up and do our duty,” a senior police officer noted and said the other party would have a version to narrate.
