Fishermen, traders slam police action
Fishermen’s community, transport workers and political parties held protests in the city against police firing that killed 12 persons in Thoothukudi.

Over 200 fishermen gathered in Nochi Kuppam and took out a rally towards light house. The police intercepted them and arrested 20 of their representatives.
Transport workers too held demonstrations in all the 321 depots on Wednesday. M Shanmugam, general secretary, Labour Progressive Federation, said the firing was unacceptable.
Traders’ associations announced that the Vanigar Sangangalin Peramaippu will stage a day-long shutdown on Thursday. CPM cadre too staged protest near Marina beach.
