15 sovereigns burgled from locked house on ECR
An unidentified burglar broke into a house on East Coast Road and decamped with 15 sovereigns of jewels in the wee hours of Monday.
Chennai
The incident happened at Vada Nemmeli village when the house owner Victor (42), a government school teacher, had gone to Velankanni along with his family. Around 2 am on Monday, a neighbour noticed that lights were switched on at Victor’s house.
When she went to check if the family has returned from Velankanni, a man jumped the compound wall and escaped from the spot.
She immediately alerted Mamallapuram police, who rushed to spot and collected evidence. A pair of hand gloves, knife and a spray left behind by the burglar was seized by the police. The burglar also abandoned a two-wheeler near the house.
Police said that the man broke open three cupboards inside the house and stole 15 sovereigns. He would have swindled more valuables if the woman hadn’t spotted him. Police suspect that the burglar could be from the locality and might have noticed that the house was locked for the last few days and planned the heist. A case has been registered and police are trying to nab the accused with the help of the two-wheeler registration number.
