Gang of 4 attacks RPF man with knife, 1 held
A Railway Protection Force constable, who tried to nab a gang of mobile snatchers at the Moore Market Complex, suffered injuries on his head after the suspects attacked him with a knife. One of the gang members was caught from the spot, while police are hunting for the rest. Incidentally, the constable was instrumental in identifying and catching a group of students who were carrying machetes.
Chennai
As they were patrolling the Moore Market Complex (MMC) on Thursday evening, RPF constables Yogesh Kumar Meena and Ratan Lal Meena found four youth who appeared suspicious. The personnel felt they could be mobile phone and chain snatchers prowling the railway station targeting passengers at the busy suburban station during the peak evening hours.
When the constables approached them, the youth took to their heels. The personnel pursued them closely on foot and got close to nabbing them. Then, to escape being caught, one of them took out a long knife and attacked the officers.
Yogesh Kumar suffered an injury on his head, but despite that, the constables managed to catch one of the four, later identified as Vijay, a 21-year-old from Triplicane.
Suffering a bleeding injury, Yogesh Kumar was admitted to government hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
The Assistant Commissioner of Periamet and a team visited the spot and placed Vijay under arrest. Police seized the weapon and four mobile phones from Vijay, and are questioning him to know more about his associates.
It may be recalled that Yogesh Kumar was one among the two constables who nabbed college students with four machetes a couple of months ago at Basin Bridge railway station.
