Corporation schools fare better than 2017

According to a statement issued by the Corporation, this registered a 0.05 per cent increase from the last year. Three schools – Koyambedu Girls Higher Secondary School, Subbarayan Chennai Higher Secondary School and CIT Nagar Higher Secondary School – recorded a pass percentage of 100. 

In total, 5,788 students appeared for the Class 12 board examinations, including 2,199 boys and 3,589 girls. Of this, 5,139 students passed the examination – including 3,357 girls and 1,782 boys. This year, 69 students achieved centum in a subject while 74 students scored above 1,100 marks. Among the students of Corporation-run institutions, 326 students scored above 1,000 marks. 

Corporation officials said that most of the children come from disadvantaged backgrounds, often finding it difficult to concentrate on their studies. But, the Corporation’s education department has been running a series of programmes – called Spark – where children who require additional tutoring are giving coaching before and after school hours. 

The children showcasing potential and have performed well in Class 11 examinations are given additional coaching in residential centres to improve their performance during the Class 12 board examinations.
