SRM university launches Centre for Performing and Fine Arts

The centre, a press release said, boasts a nationally recognised faculty with a world renowned Advisory Board and offers state of the art facilities for the students. The centre, headed by Dr Shobana Vignesh (popularly known as Mahanadhi Shobana),  would offer degrees in music, dance and fashion designing. 

The advisory board members included experts from various fields of music, dance and fine arts like Dr. L. Subramaniam, O.S. Arun, Dr. Meeta Pandit from the music industry, Priyadarsini Govind, Ms Radhika Shurajit for dance and Deccan Moorthy of fine arts. With the experts on board, SRM hopes to make this Centre a landmark institution in arts education in the cultural hub of Chennai. 

The Centre will provide several recital and concert venues for students, faculty, and visiting artists alike, for the students of performing arts. Existing SRM students can sign up for certificate courses in performing arts at the centre. 

It would also provide opportunities to exhibit designs and merchandise for the fashion designing students. The collaborative approach with renowned visiting artists and experts conducting specialised workshops would enable students to launch their careers and gain valuable real-world experience. 

Students of arts would also be trained with supportive courses like event management, sound engineering and more, giving them a holistic educational experience. For providing the Graduates of Performing and Fine Arts, SRM has MOUs with various foreign Universities and offers opportunities for student exchange programmes and international collaborations. 

With new students joining in varied field of studies looking out for best in their career, the present batch would be launching the first edition of their Margazhi Festival.
