No time to visit Vandalur zoo? Watch animals closely on app
To attract more number of visitors, the Arignar Anna Zoological Park has installed 13 CCTV cameras inside its premises.

Since some of the cameras are positioned near the animals’ enclosures, visitors with Android phones can check out movement of animals like leopards and tigers through the Vandalur Zoo app.
“The park receives thousands of visitors regularly and since this is a vacation period, we decided to install the CCTVs near wild animals,” said an official.
“Visitors, who are unable to come to the park can check out the wild animals through the app,” he added. This, however, has made fans of the zoo ask for more. The authorities claimed that they have been receiving requests for more cameras to be installed within the animals’ enclosure so that the app users can watch the animals closely.
“Some of the visitors even complained that they could not watch the animals when they walked out of the camera’s frame,” the official said, adding that cameras would help track the movement of animals as well. Recently, a giraffe fell into a trench after being chased by the forest staff.
With the help of cameras, movement of animals can be traced without the staff being physically present at the spot. It may be noted that a sizable number of lion and tiger cubs had earlier died under mysterious circumstance and installing CCTV cameras may help the forest department to investigate such cases.
