According to weathermen, there is no convergence of winds in Chennai and its suburbs leading to increase in the temperature. “Moreover, satellite imageries show that there will be no thunderstorm activity for the next few days,” said a duty officer at RMC.
“However, our numerical models indicate moderate thunderstorms for Coimbatore, Nilgiris, along with parts of Erode and Tiruppur aided by the prevailing weather system.”
Some places in the southern districts of Madurai, Theni, Dindigul and Virudhunagar also could witness spells of afternoon rains, while parts of Kanyakumari district bordering Kerala could receive good rains due to the prevailing Westerlies, added another official.
Few places in north Tamil Nadu could see a slight increase in temperatures on Monday with Chennai’s suburban areas like Avadi likely to see temperatures touch the 40-degree mark.
