Considering the spurt in the number of applicants before May 3, which was the last date for applying online, the officials had extended the deadline by another six months.

The CMDA had received 27,000 applications and DTCP got 2.5 lakh before May 3. However, numbers gradually took a dip recently, according to sources. “We expect the extension of amnesty scheme deadline will cover all irregular properties.

Realtors, nowadays, are eager regularise their plots as buyers do background verifications,” said a DTCP official, wishing  anonymity. Meanwhile, builders expressed confidence that awareness camps organised by government agencies will attract more applicants.

S Ramaprabhu, the vice-chairman of the Builders’ Association of India’s Southern Centre, said, “Both CMDA and DTCP have been organising awareness campaigns across the state. We expect that the CMDA will receive nearly 50,000 applications and while DTCP will receive around five lakh applications.” The association has urged both the government agencies to speed up the process, he added.

“We cannot come to a conclusion that the number of applications is low. Many owners are unaware of the extension in deadline and we are conducting awareness campaigns to solve that issue,” a CMDA official said.
