City students face knife attack at busy bus stop
Two city college students who were waiting at the crowded bus bay near Anna Square on Kamarajar Salai were attacked by three youth armed with knives and sickles, spreading panic among the commuters and public in the area on May 11 afternoon. Police suspect the attack was a fall out of a love triangle, and not another instance of violence among students of different colleges.

The injured students, Suresh K (21) of Tondiarpet, a second year political science student at the Presidency College, and Manikandan P (19) from Manali, studying second year B Com in the same college, were waiting for bus near university bus stop on Friday afternoon.Â
Around 3.30 pm, as they were sitting at the bus stand, the three youth reached there on a bike. They attacked the duo with sickles and knives. In this attack, the two students suffered bleeding injuries on their neck and hands.Â
The attack was daring, as it was staged at a time when the road was abuzz with vehicles and visitors to beach as well as to the memorials of former chief ministers. Before anyone could react, the three escaped on their bike.Â
The injured students were admitted to Government General Hospital, where doctors said they were out of danger. The familiar scene of students clashing with deadly weapons initially gave rise to the suspicion that this was yet another case of rivalry among city college students turning violent.Â
However, the injured youth told the police during inquiry that the attackers, were from the same college. Â
Anna Square police, who have not ruled out the possibility of love triangle behind the attack, have registered a case. Investigators have collected footages from the CCTV cameras in the vicinity, and are browsing through the visual in search of clues like vehicle registration number to zero in on the attackers.Â
