State plans solar parks to generate employment
Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has proposed a scheme to set up solar parks across the state in an attempt to provide employment for young graduates.
Chennai
TEDA proposes to establish solar parks with a cumulative installed capacity of 500 MW. These parks are expected to provide permanent employment for graduates in the state.
It will enable the state to bring in significant investment from project developers in the solar power sector to meet its Solar Purchase Obligation (SPO) mandates.
“We have invited Expression of Interest (EoI) from interested parties,” a senior TEDA official said. He added that a group of individuals, small and marginal farmers, Self Help Groups (SHG), farmers’ welfare associations, Gram Panchayats or landowners who own the required land to set up solar parks can come forward. The owners who lease their land can earn a stable annuity income, the official said.
“Each solar park will generate employment for about 2,000 graduates in the state,” the official added.
