    Man held for threatening to kill Revenue inspector

    Police arrested a man who threatened to kill a revenue inspector when the latter questioned him over alleged illegal sand mining, on the East Coast Road in the early hours of April 9.

    A team of revenue officials were conducting a search at a place near Kuvathur on ECR based on an alert that illegal sand mining was going on there.

    Around 2 am, the officials spotted a lorry carrying sand from Adayalachery river in Kuvathur and stopped the vehicle on suspicion. The lorry driver fled the spot after stopping the vehicle.

    About an hour later, a group of men along with the owner of the lorry, Dhandapani (38), reached the spot and picked up argument with the RI Srinivasan and VAO Kaviarasu. The group allegedly assaulted the revenue officials and tried take possession of the seized lorry. 

    Soon, police were called in and a team from the Kuvathur police station rushed to the spot. Seeing the police team, Dhandapani tried to escape from the spot but was arrested by the police.

    Meanwhile, in another incident, this time in Tiruvallur district, a 48-year-old revenue inspector working at the Chennai collectorate died at the hospital where he was undergoing treatment after being assaulted by unidentified persons last week.

    The deceased, Balaji of Lloyds Colony in Royapettah, had gone to Manavala Nagar in Tiruvallur on May 2 to enquire about a farm he was planning to buy. While he was there, two inebriated men got into an argument with him, which led to an assault. Though he suffered injuries, Balaji managed to escape from them and filed a complaint at Manavala Nagar police station.

    Later, he was admitted at a private hospital for treatment. But when his condition worsened, he was transferred to Stanley Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries without responding to treatment on Tuesday.

    Manavala Nagar police have converted the case into a murder and have launched a hunt for the suspects.

    Two detained after brawl over chicken price

    An argument between a meat seller and a customer over the price of chicken turned into a brawl in Avadi.

    Since some people were injured in the incident, the police intervened and detained two people. Gowrivel, a PMK functionary in Avadi, went to a meat shop buy chicken. But, the shop owner Gajitha allegedly quoted a higher price, which led to an argument. Gowrivel left the spot returned with two people and quarrelled with Gajitha. Hearing the commotion, Gajitha’s neighbours came to her rescue, and it soon turned into a brawl where people from both the parties were injured. When they approached the police, the police interrogated a few among the groups and remanded Mohan and Gajitha.
