Chennai
A 43-year-old woman and her husband were injured after they fell off the motorcycle when a duo on another bike attempted to snatch her gold chain on MaduravoyalTambaram bypass road on Sunday night.
The couple, Ravi and Valli, are residents of Avadi Tank Factory. While her husband escaped with minor injuries, Valli, who was riding pillion, suffered head injuries and has been admitted to MIOT hospital for treatment.
According to police, the couple went to meet Ravi’s mother, who has been undergoing treatment at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in Porur. They were returning home at around 11pm via Chennai bypass when the snatchers on another bike attempted to grab the gold chain from Valli.
As she held her chain tightly, her husband lost balance of the bike, and both fell off the vehicle suffering injuries. Though she managed to retrieve her gold chain by holding on to it, she was severely injured in the incident. Even as the other motorists were busy with rescuing the injured, the snatchers got on to their bike and escaped. The Maduravoyal police registered a case and further investigations are on.
Police personnel have collected the CCTV camera footage recorded at the toll plaza and are going through the clippings to trace the suspects, sources said.
This is the latest case of bike-borne chain snatchers targeting women, often dragging the victims on the road, the brutality of which has shocked the city residents.
