Man rapes woman in Chengalpattu

The couple, Pooja and Suresh (26) (names changed), also from Bihar, were staying in a rented house in Thirumukudal. Suresh works at Sipcot while Pooja is a homemaker. Suresh, who was posted on night duty, went to office on Saturday evening and Pooja was alone at their home.

Around 5.30 am on Sunday, Praveen Kumar rang the doorbell. When Pooja opened the door, he told her that he hails from Bihar and had come to Tamil Nadu for a work. He spoke to her in Hindi and Bihari. He then asked for a glass of water.

When Pooja went inside to get the water, the man rushed inside and locked the door and allegedly sexually assaulted her. On hearing her cries, neighbours rushed and surrounded the house. However, Praveen ran away and managed to escape from the spot. Based on a complaint, Salavakam police visited the house and conducted inquiries. After an investigation, the police nabbed Praveen Kumar and remanded him in custody.
