Walkers associations from across the city have been working together to help their community to beat the heat. In Kodambakkam, the Anna Park Walkers have been coping the heat on a cool note for the last few days.

“Each day, a member sponsors a healthy drink for the walkers at the park,” said P Krishnasawmy, secretary, Anna Park Walkers Association. The association with around 500 members plans to continue with the morning distribution of healthy drinks — like buttermilk, panagam , ragi koozhu — till the end of the season, apart from working on the greenery around to develop a canopy of trees in the surroundings.

Next Sunday, as many as 400 members of the East Coast Beach Walker’s Association will be educated about the best ways to beat the Kathiri. The health talk, according to Arunachalam T, secretary, East Coast Beach Walker’s Association, will brief the members about the dos and don’ts during the season.

“A majority of the audience is senior citizens, who would immensely benefit from the topic,” he said.

The talk is part of the series of similar events organised every Sunday on the beach. Arunachalam said that earlier topics too touched upon health and people’s well-being.

“We have had talks by cardiologists, urologists and neurologists in the past. Though senior citizens seem more interested, we wish to rope in youngsters for such events.”

At Mangal Eri Park, a water cooler has been installed to help the walkers have a comfortable exercise during the morning. Apart from walkers, the park also attracts a large number of people who play outdoor games like badminton.
