A division bench comprising Justice V Bharathidasan and Justice N Seshasayee before whom the PIL came up for hearing on Thursday issued notice returnable by a week. A Dhanaraj, an activist, who moved the PIL submitted that miscreants had sunk more than 10 borewells and 45 lakh litres of water was being drawn using huge pumps and devices daily.

Stating that the process is proceeding with the support of the local politicians and government officials, the petitioner alleged that the illegally drawn water is sent through tanker lorries to various places and they make huge money by selling the water.

Because of this illegal drawing of water, people in Madhavaram, Assisi Nagar, GKM Colony, Kamban Nagar, Shanti Colony, Mathur among others were deprived  of drinking water.
