The division bench Comprising Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh and Justice M Dhandapani before whom the plea moved by the Parents Union for Students Educational Rights (PUSER) came up ahead of the vacation, issued notice to State education authorities returnable by three weeks.

The petitioner had submitted that in 1996, Chennai Corporation had introduced LKG and UKG in 30 Primary and Middle schools as a first step towards providing pre-school education. Now, the same facility is available at 200 Corporation Schools catering to over 10,000 such students.

Seeking extension of the above to Municipalities, Town Panchayats and Village Panchayats, the petitioner sought the court to direct the State to extend pre-school education throughout the State.
