A senior Corporation official said that the repair and improvement of the existing parks are being taken up at the zonal level. “In addition, new parks are being planned in Adyar zone and other extended areas. It will include the repair of footpath as well and play equipment in the park. It will focus on enhancing the greenery in these spaces. Additional play materials will also be installed if needed. The parks will also be equipped with LED lights,” said the official.

Highlighting the importance of urban parks, city-based urban designer Tahaer Zoyab said that such public spaces play a vital role in bringing people together. “Parks act as green lungs of the city and bring about a sense of openness in a neighbourhood, which can otherwise feel congested. In addition, these parks are great social places to bring people together, as these spaces are used for exercising, socialising and for meeting up. Parks are not just about greenery but a multitude of other uses. For instance, people perform parkour in Nageswara Rao Park. We, as a society, are realising the value of these parks and the different things we could do, to give justice to these spaces. Improving these parks are vital,” said the urban designer.
