Engine failure disrupts MRTS service for nearly two hours
MRTS services on Beach-Velachery route were disrupted for nearly two hours on Monday after a Beach-bound EMU from Velachery broke down at Perungudi station.
Chennai
Around 8.35am, the engine of train number 43791, which started from Velachery at 8.30am,reportedly developed a snag at Perugudi, railway officials said. Despite repeated attempts, the motorman could not move the train as the engine failed to work, leaving the loaded EMU stranded on the arterial route during peak hour. However, railway sources in the know of things dismissed the case of engine failure and attributed the snag to rupture in the air pressure pipe of the train.Â
Railway officials cancelled six Beach-bound EMUs berthed at Velachery and a similar number of EMUs on the opposite direction were short terminated at Tirumayilai and sent back to Beach station. Passengers aboard the EMU were transported to Beach via another train from beyond Perungudi.
