Minister Velumani hands over Rs 7.5 crore to Self-Help Groups for making sanitary napkins
Minister S P Velumani handed over Rs 7.56 crore to Self-Help Groups to produce sanitary napkins for young women and new mothers.

The minister was attending an exhibition organised by the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women at the Anna Teresa Women’s College, here on Wednesday.
The summer special exhibition was inaugurated by ministers D Jayakumar and C Vijaya Bhaskar. Stating that over 120 SHGs participated and sold products worth Rs 55.34 lakh in the 2017-18 state-level exhibitions, Velumani said, “In the 41 exhibitions held at the district level, 1,039 SHGs participated and sold products worth Rs 201.83 lakh.
Similarly, in the exhibition held in other states, SHGs sold products worth Rs 154.23 lakh.” He said 127 mobile shops were opened and products worth Rs 230.46 lakh were sold in 2017-18. In total, SHGs have sold products worth Rs 8.49 crore.
More than 120 SHGs across 32 districts of the state are participating this year in 55 halls and the products that are sold include cotton, silk etc.
