More than 20,000 teachers were deployed for the evaluation at various centres across the state amid strict vigil.
Meanwhile, thousands of teachers, who went for evaluation at various centres, wore black badges to draw the government’s attention to their demands regarding wage revision.
The president of Tamil Nadu Teachers Association, P K Illamaran, said that although a few hundred teachers boycotted the assessment, the work should be completed by the first week of May.
He added that in Chennai and Thiruvallur district all the teachers were present in their respective evaluation centres. “In other districts, a few teachers, affiliated to other associations boycotted the evaluation”, Illamaran said.
But, he added that even among the teachers who went for work, his association members wore black badges to protest against the government’s inaction towards their demands.
Sources from the School Education Department said that action would be taken against those who did not turn up for the assessment. “Only cases with genuine reasons for absence will be spared,” a senior official said.
According to him, the evaluation for 12 answer sheets were already in progress. “The results for plus-two exams will be announced on May 16. There will not be any delay,” he said.
He said that Class 10 exam results would be out on May 23 and that of Class 11 would be declared on May 30. “The evaluation of papers of Classes 10 and 12 will be over on May 7, and that of Class 11 will be completed on May 20,” said the senior official.
