Policewoman’s husband found dead

Police identified the deceased as Thirumalai Kumar, husband of constable Kottai Ammal and an ex-serviceman who was working in a private firm. They were residing in L block in the police quarters. 

After his wife was admitted to the hospital following an ailment a week ago, Thirumalai Kumar was alone in their house. 

Their 14-year-old daughter was taking care of her mother in the hospital. For the past three days, he did not come out of the house, neighbours told the police. When they complained to the police after noting foul smell emanating from the house, police opened the door. 

Inside, Thirumalai Kumar found dead sitting on a sofa with a liquor bottle lying near his body. Police sources said they suspect that the man could have died while consuming alcohol. 

His body has been shifted to hospital for an autopsy. Reason for his death was not immediately known, said police, adding that further investigation was on.
