Leaked intel report cites extortion by police
Leaked content of an internal confidential communication — a field report by an intelligence unit policeman about night activities at police stations in Adyar — has left many shocked. The report states that policemen in many stations indulge in extortion after taking the people to the station during nights in the name of verification under CrPC section 41 (II).

According to the intelligence service report, such activities are rampant in Neelankarai, Thuraipakkam, Semmencherry, Kannagi Nagar and Taramani. The report says that except Taramani and Kumaran Nagar stations, crime wing sleuths do not go for night patrol.
The report also noted that at least three tea stalls working near police stations like Thuraipakkam, Guindy and Saidapet do not down shutters in the night.
Those who are posted on night patrol duty never bother to step out of their vehicle and sign the register in the station.
Instead, they sit inside the vehicle and make the station staff bring the register to the vehicle and sign it, the report said. Sources said that the report, meant for senior officials in the intelligence section, was leaked after somebody accidentally posted the communication letter, in an online group of media representatives on Tuesday morning.
