CMDA to hold meeting with Koyambedu traders
After a few traders opposed the closure of Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex (KWMC) once in a month to take up cleaning works, the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has decided to hold talks with the Market Management Committee. Sources said that the traders have already received a communication from CMDA regarding the meeting.

To ensure the better maintenance of the market and facilitate the cleaning of the market, the CMDA asked the traders to cooperate for shutting down the market for one day every month.
Even deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam visited the market last year and asked the officials concerned to take necessary measures to ensure better hygiene. Later, the traders were divided over the one-day closure, as a group of traders opposed the move.
“We have already advised the traders about it and we will organize a meeting with committee members, comprising traders association leaders,” said a CMDA official on condition of anonymity.
“After the meeting with marketing committee members, a report in this regard will be sent to the government,” said another official. VR Soundararajan, president of Koyambedu Market Vegetable Traders Association said, “It is a good move to shut market one-day for taking up maintenance works. Moreover, we are urging the traders to cooperate.”
