Imposter held for cheating 100 families of Rs 75 lakh
A 45-year-old man, posing as a Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) staffer, cheated 100 families to the tune of Rs 75 lakh after promising to secure flats for them.

Complainants said that the accused, Anbazhagan (45) of Guduvanchery, used to travel in a car with a TNSCB sticker on it and claimed that he was one of its directors. The incident dates back to 2014 when Anbazhagan told his acquaintances R Lakshmanan and his daughter Kumudhavalli that he can allot 100 flats in the TNSCB’s upcoming project on ECR and asked them to collect Rs 1 lakh from interested buyers. Trusting him, the duo convinced 100 families and received the cash. They gave Rs 75 lakh to Anbazhakan on November 24, 2014. A month later, he gave them an official order to confirm their flat.Â
When the investors didn’t get an update on the project till 2017, they started demanding money from Lakshmanan and Kumudhavalli. Anbazhagan allegedly threatened the duo of dire consequences when they approached him.Â
Earlier this year, they approached TNSCB with the orders given by Anbazhagan and found that they were fake. A case was registered and a special team arrested Anbazhagan on Saturday.
