Subramanian (name changed), who complained of a heavy heart, had fainted before being rushed to Fortis Malar Hospital. His pulse rate was zero when he reached the hospital.
After an initial period of stability, Subramanian suffered a cardiac arrest combined with cardiogenic shock. “Cardiogenic shock is the heart failing to function properly due to a certain condition such as damage or an arrhythmia,” said Dr Madan Mohan, Interventional Cardiologist at the Hospital.
Stressing on the importance of undergoing treatment within the golden hour, he said, “As soon as Subramanian was brought here, we gave him CPR for almost an hour and put him on Inter Aortic Balloon Pump, a mechanical device that increases oxygen supply.” The patient has completely recovered now.
