The traffic was halted and diverted from 11 30 am onwards to 2 30 pm fearing black flag protests. It was decided to make some changes in the flow of traffic in and around Adyar because of the plans by the protestors, police said.

Despite the fact that the Prime Minster was taking the air route to reach various venues – the police had to make motorists suffer in the hot sun.

Though the police had diverted the traffic flow, all the roads were reeling under traffic snarls till 3 pm. Motorists coming from Guindy were not allowed to take right turn to Little Mount from Anna Salai but asked to proceed to Nandanam junction via Saidapet to reach their destination.

Those who were coming from Adyar to Guindy and airport were asked to take left at Madhya Kailash junction and to proceed via OMR and take right at SRP Tools junction to reach GST Road via Velachery.

Similarly, motorists were also not allowed to use Gandhi Mandapam Road towards Adyar Cancer Institute, to make sure that the entire Sardar Patel Road stretch between Madhya Kailash and Halda junction remained sterile for nearly 3 hours.
