Eastern bypass road to be ready in a year: Officials
Just as the state has accorded its administrative sanction to develop the Tambaram Eastern Bypass road, senior officials of Highways department are confident that the complete development which would come up in the existing alignment of Agaramthen road could be finished in a year’s time.

The project once completed would take the load off from both Velachery Main Road and Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road.
Pointing to the recent sanction of Rs 33.35 crore for the project, a senior official said that the present allocation would be utilised for the portions where land acquisition had been completed.
The sanction was also in tune with the announcement made by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami that 2.63 km of the stretch on Tambaram Eastern Bypass road is branching from Rajakilpakkam and extending via Agaramthen Road up to Perungalathur.
The development would include the construction of medians and islands, relocation of utilities, installation of name boards, bus bays, bus shelters, lighting facilities at junctions and creation of green line, among others.
Sources said the land acquisition had been completed in Tiruvanchery. The department had already deposited the money in ‘revenue account’ from which it would be disbursed to the land owners.
“We expect the disbursal to be completed within this month and the development will be taken up and completed in the next 3 to 6 months. At present, the formation of the bypass road had reached up to Agaramthen. The present segment is between Agaramthen and Perungaluthur and would cut across Tiruvanchery. We hope to complete the land acquisition in the rest of the stretch and develop it before the end of this year”, the official said.
The official noted that the project was based on the development-oriented ‘spider-web pattern’ and it would positively impact the locality. The official added that it would also save fuel, reduce travel time and the traffic.
