Officials of the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department are awaiting the food sample test report from the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research in Guindy, after another patient of Apollo Hospitals group is suspected to have caught the highly infectious disease.

“While the other cases were reported at Apollo Speciality Cancer Hospital in Nandanam, the latest came from the main hospital on Greams Road. We have taken samples and sent them to King Institute. Results are expected by Tuesday,” said Dr R Kathiravan, Designated Food Safety Officer.

Stating that they would decide the next step based on the test result, he added, “The case reported at the Greams Road facility was not an inpatient. However, we have inspected the shops and stalls in the vicinity. We have also picked up eight samples – five food and three water samples – from the canteen at the Nandanam hospital.”

Stating that they had received a call from the Apollo Hospital administration two days ago, City Health Officer Dr Senthil Nathan said that they have taken steps to ensure that all patients were stable. “We are working with the Food Safety Department to ensure that this is under check,” he added.
