MTC plans to ply ordinary service buses on long routes

According to MTC officials, they have already shifted several deluxe buses into ordinary and express services to attract passengers to make up for the loss in revenue.

“We receive requests from passengers to operate more ordinary and express services in the long routes,” said an MTC official, seeking anonymity.

Meanwhile, commuters particularly daily workers, said that travelling by deluxe buses along such roots is becoming a financial burden on them. “As the maximum fare is Rs 37, I spend Rs 74 per day for bus fare. There is not even a single ordinary service from here,” said A Muthuraja, a painter, who takes MTC bus from Poomallee to Broadway. He added that since there was option to take train service in the areas, he was left with no option but to take MTC bus.

K Anbazhagan, Joint Secretary of Nethaji Transport Workers Union, said, “The MTC should operate ordinary services in long routes, as common people at large number take MTC buses. Moreover, bus routes like 25 G and 101 have no ordinary services.” A senior official, MTC, said that they were planning to operate ordinary services in the long routes. “The MTC is supposed to get 60 ordinary buses within June. Those buses will be operated along the long routes,” the official said.
