NRI quota scam: DVAC may summon Vivek Jayaraman
Amid a raging controversy over alleged corrupt practices by Sasikala’s nephew and Jaya TV CEO Vivek Jayaraman for his law university admission, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths indicated that he would be summoned soon.
Chennai
Vivek was admitted to Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University under NRI quota without certificates, which are mandatory, said the FIR that the DVAC had registered last week. Sources noted that Vivek would be summoned but not immediately, and added that he was not listed as accused in the case yet.
Giving a detailed account of the corruption in the admission process, the officers had referred Vivek’s case in the FIR and said he had not submitted six documents, including NRI status certificate issued by the Indian Embassy of the respective country with seal, copy of non-resident bank account passbook, certificate of relationship between the NRI and the applicant, eligibility certificate, joint declaration of parent and student, and affidavit by the applicant.
The FIR had quoted V Balaji, in-charge registrar of the law university, admitting during an inquiry that the mandatory documents were not available with the application of Vivek.
Jaya TV CEO dares agency to take action
Denying the allegations levelled against him as baseless, Vivek Jayaraman dared the investigative agency to take action if there was any corruption in his admission. Vivek also claimed that he was qualified to be admitted under NRI quota as his sister held Singapore citizenship, and added that he had submitted all the necessary documents. Claiming that his family is being targeted, Vivek denied Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar’s remarks on the issue, and stated that he would face the case legally.
