    Grocer duo held for burglaries in houses of five customers

    In yet another new modus operandi, a duo running a grocery shop in Elephant Gate were arrested for at least five cases of burglaries in their customers’ houses.

    The accused identified as Nabath Lal Singh of Andhra Pradesh and Bundah Ram of Rajasthan, ran a provision store on Rasappa Street in Elephant Gate. 

    Police said that while delivering the provisions they would note down all details of the house including the number of family members and valuables. Later they broke in when the inmates were away in guise of delivering grocery items.  

    “items in the particular house. Even if the neighbours question them, they would refer the family name and say they were there to deliver goods,” police said. Both were nabbed with the help of CCTV footage and Rs 5 lakh were recovered from them.

    3 threaten parlour worker, arrested 

    Three persons, including a businessman, were arrested in Kundrathur for allegedly threatening a 23-year-old beauty parlour employee with releasing her morphed photos on the internet. The businessman was identified as Jagan (28) of Aziz Nagar, Kodambakkam and his friends, Devcharan (30) and Krishnan (28) of Alandur. 

    Jagan, who used to frequent a beauty parlour in Anna Nagar, where the woman worked, and became friends with her. Later, he started threatening her that he would release the photos online and demanded the woman to pay Rs 3 lakh or he would release her morphed photos on the internet.  

    On Monday, he along with his friends came to her house and threatened her of dire consequences if she did not pay the money. He allegedly took away her gold necklace. Thereafter, the woman informed her parents, who lodged a complaint at Kundrathur police station. 

    Police decided to trap Jagan by asking her to call him to a specific spot promising him to pay the cash. As expected, the came in a car to Kundrathur and the police team that was lying in wait caught all the three of them.
