According to the villagers, students need to cross the railway track and the National Highway to reach the new place, which will cause inconvenience.Â
The school has a total strength of about 1,500 students. Due to the increase in the number of students, the officials have planned to build a new building for the school on the other side of the village, which is about 2 km away from the present facility.Â
Since the work for the new school building was about to begin on Thursday, around 400 villagers gathered at the Kancheepuram to Arakkonam Road and staged a protest. They demanded that the new building be built inside the old campus so that the students need not travel. As the traffic in the stretch was affected, Kancheepuram tahsildar and revenue officials rushed to the spot and held talks with the protesters.Â
Following this, the tahsildar ordered stoppage of construction work temporarily and promised them that their demands will be considered. After the assurance, the villagers dispersed. Traffic was blocked for more than an hour on the Kancheepuram - Arakkonam Road due to the incident.
