The accused M Keerthi (50), who was absconding since then, was nabbed by a special team. According to police, Keerthi from Vyasarpadi, who is into real estate business, has no other cases against him.
“Though he was not present at the hotel when police surrounded the gang and seized a pistol from them, he took part in their previous meeting. The person who wanted the gun placed his order through him,” said an officer. Gopinath (25) of Vyasarpadi, Kumar (52) of RV Nagar in Anna Nagar, Murugan (52) and Prakash (32), both from Mathuranthagam, were arrested from a hotel on Wallajah Road last August when they had met to exchange a pistol for money. Apart from the firearm, which is said to be as good as original, seven 9mm bullets and three magazines were seized from them.
Of the four, Kumar is said to be the broker, while the others had come to buy the weapon. They have been involved in the business for a while and supplied pistols to dacoits, alleged police sources. Also, another absconding accused in the case, lawyer Deepan, has managed to get an anticipatory bail.
