Notice to CBFC, producer of film Merlin
The MHC has ordered notice to the CBFC and JSB film studio, producer of Tamil film Merlin, on a PIL, seeking to remove a scene in the film, which insulted women.
Chennai
The first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddhose, before whom the PIL filed by Praveena Charumathi Sampathkumar of Chennai, on ordering notice posted the plea to March 16.
The petitioner contended that she was shocked to find a statement where a priest says that in most cases only women are possessed by ghosts and the main reason is their failure to have sex.
Pointing out that the film has been given “U” certificate by the Censor Board, she noted that her representation to the Board and the producer to remove the same had failed to evoke any response.
