The incident happened in the wee hours of Sunday when the victims - Abdul Aziz (45) from Washermanpet, Sukkur (32) of Puducherry, Mohamed Sayed (30) and Prakash of Ramanathapuram and Nayanar Mohamed from Sri Lanka - were travelling from a lodge in Triplicane to the airport to board a flight to Colombo.
Meanwhile, St Thomas Mount assistant commissioner said on Thursday that the actual amount robbed was only Rs 5 lakh and not Rs 16 lakh as initially reported.Â
Similarly, in the Tirumangalam jewellery shop heist in which about 10 kg of gold was looted by an unidentified gang, police are yet to identify the burglars.Â
The gang had damaged CCTV cameras and had taken the DVR with them, forcing police to retrieve footages from surrounding areas. Sources said that the footage have the images of burglars, but their faces were not clear.Â
Seven teams have been formed to nab the burglars. One of the teams has gone to Tindivanam, from where former employees of AKS Jewellery shop hail from.Â
