Bus driver suffers heart attack, but saves passengers
A 52-year-old MTC driver suffered a heart attack minutes after he started the journey towards Red Hills from Avadi, with 53 passengers. But he ensured that the bus is parked safely before he collapsed and died on the driver’s seat.

The driver M Sunderaraj of Nemilichery is survived by his wife Alamelu and two daughters, who are married. He was attached to Avadi depot and drove 61 R, the lone bus service connecting Redhills to Avadi.Â
He started the bus from Redhills at 9.30 am with conductor Rajendran and 53 passengers. Within minutes he developed a chest pain and briefly lost control of the bus. However, he managed to park the bus near BSNL office, one kilometre from the bus stand. The panicked passengers and the conductor rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.Â
Police sent his body to the GH for post-mortem examination. He has been driving in the same route for since he joined MTC 22 years ago and the regular passengers on the route know him very well, said sources.
