SP Udayakumar under ED scanner
SP Udayakumar, the anti-nuclear activist who led the struggle against Kudankulam nuclear plant, is now under the scanner for having received “foreign remittances

N Ananthie of Enforcement Directorate said Udayakumar was summoned for allegedly received foreign remittances.
Udayakumar is the convenor of People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy, which had put up a sustained fight against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tirunelveli district. The fight had grabbed headlines when the Kudamkulam plant was decommissioned.
Apart from his personal identity card, the ED had asked Udayakumar to bring updated bank statements of past ten years, details of all “foreign remittance” transactions made, income tax returns details of the last 10 years, audited balance sheet of his business firms for the last 10 years, details of movable and immovable properties held in his name and in the name of his family members.
Udayakumar, who was a professor of a US university, that he was receiving unaccounted foreign funds to mobilise protest against the Indian nuclear power project.
Udayakumar claimed that he had earlier submitted all his accounts to the Union home ministry and Tamil Nadu police. Following this development, Udayakumar posted the summons by ED on his Facebook page.
