Student helpline receives over 2,500 calls

The second paper of Class 12 board exams went through peacefully on Friday with students claiming that they found the language paper easy. “The question paper was easy. It went pretty well,”, I Sona, a student from St Joseph’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School at Perambur said. 

On Friday, about 4,000 members of the flying squad and standing squad monitored the exams throughout the state to stop students from cheating. Officials from the Education department continued to inspect various examination centres in Chennai. 

Differently-abled students, who were appearing for exams and had sought special permission, were given additional time to finish the test. Meanwhile, the helpline for students received more than 2,500 calls on Friday. The number 14417 provides all school related information including counselling and career guidance. On Thursday, students who wrote the first language paper claimed that the question paper was slightly difficult especially in the one-word section. 

Education department officials claimed that since this was the last batch of students appearing for the board exams in the current curriculum, the question papers were prepared keeping in mind and that it should not be unreasonably difficult. “Since an overhaul of the syllabus is underway, the question papers have been set keeping that in mind and was not made too tough,” an official said.
