‘Safety gear a must for sanitary workers’
Sanitary workers should be given all the proper safety measures, if not severe action will be taken against the municipality officials, said a senior member of the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC), at the review meeting held at Kancheepuram Collectorate on Friday.

Following the death of three people while cleaning a septic tank of star hotel in Sirperumbudur on February 13, Jagadesh Harimani, a senior member of the NSKFDC from Delhi came to inspect the hotel on Thursday. He then met the sanitary workers and interacted with them. The workers informed that they were not provided with safety gear and also not being paid salaries.
The NAKFDC official attended the review meeting held by the district Collector P Ponniah, in which all officials of the Municipality and Town Panchayat were present.
At the meeting, Jagadesh Harimani warned of legal action if sanitary workers are affected due to non-availability of safety gears. He also advised the RDO take appropriate action in the issue.
