No film will release for a few weeks: TFPC

While the threat of yet another strike loomed large across the southern cine industries, the Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) on Wednesday confirmed that there will be no new releases for the next few weeks. 

There have been reports that the four film industries Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam have been negotiating with digital service providers such as QUBE and UFO about the prices being charged for services. 

After a couple of rounds of discussions, negotiations have not yielded any positive outcome. 

SR Prabhu, the treasurer of TFPC, told DT Next, “Though the strike isn’t indefinite, we don’t think there will be a solution for this at least in the next three to six weeks. We have put forth a few requests, and one of them is that we need the respective state governments to interfere and help us out.” 

He also added that the pending films will be released based on priorities.

“Firstly, we will be meeting the government and see if they can provide us with a solution. Even when we prioritise the releases, after we call off the strike, films will be released only in limited screens,” he added. 

The producers have decided not to pay any VPF charges and will only be paying the service providers the handling chargers. A statement from the council reads that any producer, who fails to follow these will face disciplinary action from the council.
