Most DMK leaders on silent mode as Stalin tours Malaysia

The opposition DMK has gone on a silent mode ever since its working president MK Stalin left the city for Malaysia last week. The party has been out of the thick of political activity since the Leader of Opposition undertook overseas tour.

Except Stalin’s one-liners posted on Facebook and Twitter, very few DMK leaders have kept him/ herself active in the last few days.

The only major statement even Stalin had issued from abroad was his brief reaction to issues, including a condolence message for actor Sridevi’s demise, other than the photo-op with Malaysian Prime Minister Najeeb Razak and the condemnation for ignoring Tamizhthai Vazhthu in IIT-Madras, which were circulated on Monday. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi skirting the CMB formation issue was given a go by the prominent leaders of the principal opposition party.

In the meantime, DMK leaders Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and Saidapet MLA Ma Subramanian have come out of their shell. The DMK women’s wing leader on Monday demanded stern action in Villupuram sexual assault cum murder case where a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted, her younger brother murdered and her mother brutally attacked. “The incident has made (me) wonder if humanism has died in Tamil Nadu. Whoever was involved in the incident, police should not hesitate to initiate stern action against them,” Kanimozhi tweeted, in the lone reaction from the DMK for the gruesome murder.  The period of inactivity in the DMK camp could end on Tuesday when Stalin’s wife Durga gets her book “Avarumnaanum” (He and I) released in the city.

Saidapet MLA Ma Su, on the other hand, came into limelight for running marathons in the intervening period.
